KOTA KINABALU – Sabah DAP is not attacking Warisan, but rather defending the party against unexpected attacks from its “friend” (Warisan), said the state DAP leader.
Sabah DAP secretary Phoong Jin Zhe said that the party firmly backs the principle that opposition parties should be united when facing elections – this time the Johor polls.
“Sadly, our efforts of ‘building bridges’ among the opposition parties did not go well now that Warisan decided to go solo and fight six state seats in Johor that were all won by Pakatan Harapan in 2018.
“Now, we cannot reverse Warisan’s move in Johor. Despite all the baseless and malicious attacks from Warisan, Sabah DAP remains focused on ‘building bridges’,” he told The Vibes.
Phoong said that DAP will always uphold the principle of democracy and defend the Warisan’s decision to expand to West Malaysia.
In fact, he said when Warisan launched their expansion to Peninsular Malaysia in December last year, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng welcomed the party’s move and urged it to work together and unite the opposition.
“From the ground, we began to feel the sentiment of the people coming back (to DAP) positively, for change and for hope. People are looking for hope in times of darkness. They want us to stay united and work together, like the Avengers, to build the country together. We cannot fail their expectations.
“So let’s not divide among ourselves,” he said, adding that he remains hopeful that DAP will be able to find a new collaborative formula to bring change to Malaysia.
“We need to remind everyone to focus on our common goals over our differences; unless Warisan has changed their goal and ‘friend’.
“It is ironic when one always talks about ‘unity’, but in reality, they are actually destroying ‘unity’ (among the opposition). Judge their actions, not just talk,” he said. – The Vibes, March 6, 2022
