GEORGE TOWN – The state MCA today listed 14 “empty promises” made by Pakatan Harapan (PH), in conjunction with the 14th anniversary of the coalition’s administration in Penang today.
The chapter’s youth chief Lim Swee Bok said the 14-year rule of the current government in Penang has not brought much change to the state, and that there had been no high-impact development as promised before.
“Among the promises that failed to be implemented was the abolishment of the Sg Nyior toll. In 2008, Lim Guan Eng had promised to abolish the toll if PH won in Penang, but until now it has not happened at all.
“Besides that, in 2012, the state government also spent RM8.5 million for the free Wi-Fi project in Penang. But after 10 years, it is either very slow or cannot be used at all,” he said at a press conference at the Penang MCA office, today.
Lim also mentioned that the water tariffs and surcharges increased four times in the past 14 years, even though the former chief minister promised not to raise them in 2009.
Another “empty” promise that he pointed out was the undersea tunnel project announced in 2011, which had also failed to be implemented.
In fact, the mega project also caused Lim to be caught in a corruption case that is being tried in court.
“Enough with the sweet promises made by PH in Penang. The people of Johor need to learn from us.
“They (DAP) will promise again. So, I hope the people, especially the people of Johor, will not be deceived again,” he added.
During the presser, the state MCA also “presented” five awards to the state government to symbolise their time in George Town.
The five awards are the Most Expensive Fraud Award “won” by the undersea tunnel project, Best Fraud Award (Penang free Wi-Fi project), and Best Blank Promise Award (Sg Nyior toll).
The other two awards are the Best Nonsense Award won by Penang’s public transport system (for cable car, aero bus, and tram announcements), and the International Best Laughter Material Award for several international projects that ended in failure (largest water park construction proposal in Asia, as well as an international music festival and the longest mural in Komtar).
“In this regard, we hope the DAP state government can come to the MCA office to receive this award within two weeks.
“Otherwise, we will go to Komtar to present these five awards,” he said. – The Vibes, March 8, 2022
