KUALA LUMPUR – When the borders reopen on April 1, travellers entering Malaysia who are not fully vaccinated or unvaccinated must undergo a five-day quarantine, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said in a press conference in Parliament that once these individuals have completed their quarantine, they must follow local Covid-19 protocols, which include prohibition to dine-in at restaurants.

“As for travellers aged 17 and below, regardless of vaccination status, they do not have to be quarantined. However, they must undergo a Covid-19 test within 24 hours of arriving in Malaysia.”

For fully vaccinated international travellers who would undergo mandatory quarantine before the commencement of the transition towards the endemic phase, they will be released from isolation on April 1.

“For example, if your quarantine begins on March 19, your quarantine will end on April 1,” he explained.

Meanwhile, travellers who are exempted from receiving vaccinations due to medical-related factors must upload proof of exception provided by a medical officer into the MySejahtera application.

However, he said protocol for travellers entering via the country’s land borders is still being worked out and will be announced soon.

To make it easier for travellers and Malaysians entering the country to get access on all current protocols related to Covid-19, the Rembau MP has launched a new portal called CovidProtocol.

He added that the portal will be updated from time to time on protocols that must be followed by travellers and local citizens who will be entering the country’s borders from April 1 onwards.

This comes amid Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s announcement yesterday to transition towards the endemic phase of Covid-19 starting April 1 this year.

Ismail Sabri announced that travellers who are fully vaccinated need not undergo quarantine upon arrival in the country. – The Vibes, March 9, 2022
