SANDAKAN – Former Sabah chief minister Tan Sri Musa Aman has sent journalists on a wild goose chase after speculation of him making a return to the political scene surfaced.
Musa was supposed to attend a futsal match at Taman Muhibbah People’s Housing Project at Mile 12 today but had failed to show up.
Local journalists are said to have travelled as far as 30km to attend the event.
According to the event’s organisers, Musa had to fly to Kuala Lumpur for a meeting, missing out on the futsal match, which was also named after him – the Tan Sri Musa Aman Cup.
The championship’s organising chairman, Awang Safari Awang Safar, launched the event instead.
Musa, who was once Sabah Umno liaison chief and the state’s Barisan Nasional leader, has been under the state’s political radar since being ousted as chief minister just days after the 2018 general election.
More recently, however, Musa was seen having tea with his old mates from Umno, triggering talks in the social media circle that he would be making a return.
This comes after a photo made its way widely on social media showing Musa having tea with Umno leaders.
They include Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin; Sukau Umno rep cum Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, Datuk Jafry Ariffin; former Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak; Karambunai rep cum Sabah BN deputy chairman Datuk Yakub Khan; and nominated assemblyman Datuk Suhaimi Nasir.
At the launch of the futsal match, Awang Safari was reported to have read out Musa’s speech, mentioning that the youth in Sabah are very lucky that the state government is concerned with the development of sports in the state.
“It is hoped that the government’s seriousness to prepare and enhance the quality of sports facilities in the country will encourage our youth to be involved (in sports) for the development of sports in Malaysia.”
The championship, which was fully sponsored by Musa, received close to 1,000 participants (104 teams) among men under 40 years old residing in the Libaran constituency. Participation was free of charge and all participants received a jersey.
Prizes for the winner, first and second runner-ups are RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively.
Musa was last seen at a public function helping Umno candidates to present their speeches during the Sabah state election in 2020. – The Vibes, March 27, 2022
