KUALA LUMPUR – It is an isolated incident and not a scam that is becoming more common, the police said about a recent video showing a pedestrian deliberately throwing himself onto a moving car in Kapar.

Klang Utara district police chief Vijaya Rao said authorities have yet to receive any reports on similar cases, despite concerns raised by netizens on the matter.

“This is only the first case (like this),” he told The Vibes.

He said he has never witnessed a similar incident, or not in areas under his jurisdiction, at least.

In a statement on April 15, Vijaya said the driver lodged a police report saying that the incident took place along Jalan Goh Hock Kuat.

“After the accident, the complainant informed the ‘pedestrian’ that the vehicle had a dashboard camera and the pedestrian left with minor injuries.”

He added that Klang Utara police arrested a 25-year-old Myanmar national from a house in Jalan Shahpadi Rantau Panjang.

“The man will be remanded for further investigations.”

The case is being investigated under Section 336 of the Penal Code for endangering human life or the safety of others.

The case went viral last week after a 45-second video clip – taken by a dashboard camera of the vehicle involved – was shared on the Facebook page of the Klang Utara Residents Association.

The footage from the driver’s perspective shows a man standing in the middle of the road just as the car turns into a junction.

After seeing the vehicle, the man makes a dash for the car and jumps on its hood. The supposed ploy also saw the “accident victim” severely damaging the vehicle’s windscreen.
