KUALA LUMPUR – The Registrar of Societies (RoS) has not received any formal complaints that warrant an investigation pertaining to the recently concluded PKR polls, despite accusations of fraud and vote manipulation.
As such, the question of whether RoS will be looking into the implementation of the party election does not arise, a spokesperson told The Vibes today.
“We have not received any complaints from party members on the said allegations, so there’s nothing really to comment.”
While this year’s PKR election was not as controversial as the previous ones, there have been allegations of discrepancies.
Claims of fraud have surfaced even prior to the voting period, which took place from May 13 to 22, with Rafizi Ramli alleging the existence of some 54,000 “dubious” members eligible to vote.
Among other things, he had said that there were many voters registered under the same phone number, some with incorrect MyKad numbers, while there were also members of other parties registered as PKR voters.
Since voting began, more allegations have been hurled by various quarters, including involving alleged manipulation of the online voting system.
News reports had previously on May 19 quoted PKR’s election committee chairman Zaliha Mustafa as confirming that multiple complaints have been lodged by party members questioning the voting process, and saying the matter would be investigated.
Even after unofficial results began pouring in, several members have questioned their legitimacy.
On May 29, vice-president candidate Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak had described the Gombak division’s polling results as highly doubtful, and claimed to have strong evidence and documentation to file a protest and demand a forensic audit be conducted by the party.
He lost the battle for Gombak division chief to Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari by more than 600 votes.
Yesterday, Sangetha Jayakumar – daughter of former PKR vice-president Datuk Xavier Jayakumar – alleged the presence of irregularities, after losing the race for the Kota Raja division chief post by over a 1,000 majority.
She claimed that the number of total votes counted, including “dubious” ballots, was less than the total number of voters who took part in the polls.
PKR will announce its official election results during its national congress at the end of next month, while Zaliha is expected to hold a press conference soon to address some of the allegations. – The Vibes, May 31, 2022
