KOTA KINABALU – The transfer of nine problematic police officers from the peninsula to East Malaysia is now being reviewed following the outcry from politicians and civil society leaders against making Sabah and Sarawak a “dumping ground” for personnel with disciplinary issues.
In announcing this, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani clarified the move only involves Sarawak and not Sabah.
He said he had taken note of the opposition expressed by both state governments to the posting of the officers to these states.
He said he has ordered the police force’s administrative unit to address the issue.
Acryl Sani also confirmed that the posting of the officers has not been executed yet. He assured that updates will be provided until the issue is resolved.
“I wish to thank the governments of Sabah and Sarawak for their feedback on this matter,” he said at a press conference here today.
“Police have taken note of this and I have instructed the administration department to take action and review the matter.
The transfers of the officers who are being probed for extortion involving a drug-related case have earned brickbats by politicians and groups in Sabah and Sarawak.
The officers were attached with the Selangor police.
Yesterday, Sabah chief minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor complained that the state should have been consulted first when it comes to such matters.
The Sarawak secretary’s office has also clarified today that the nine officers have not been transferred to Sarawak and Sabah yet. – The Vibes, August 4, 2022
