KUALA LUMPUR – PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has committed a tactical blunder by choosing Bersatu over Umno, said Datuk Khairuddin Aman Razali.

Speaking to Free Malaysia Today, Khairuddin, who is a former PAS central working committee member, said this is because Bersatu is a “small” party that mainly depended on the strength of other parties.

“The strategy now is to place Bersatu as the main pillar for muafakat (cooperation). Instead, it should have been done with Umno.

“I’m sure if the PAS president decided to defend their relationship with Umno, then Bersatu would follow suit, as they are a small party and dependent on PAS.

“It’s his right as president (to make political alliances). I am different from him, but in this matter, I’m confident that his strategy has not benefited PAS,” he was quoted as saying.

Instead, Khairuddin said Hadi should have leverage on Umno and PAS’ renewed relationship through Muafakat Nasional and proceed with their objective of uniting the ummah instead of leaning towards Bersatu.

Khairuddin also revealed that many PAS members share the same view but would rather internalise their opinion than act in contradiction over the party’s decision to choose Bersatu over Umno.

“There are members who are much more vocal, but there is no need for me to name them, yet you can see who else is talking about the issue…but that is normal in the party.

“They are speaking as members, but they abide by the decision made by the party, stating that working with Bersatu is the party’s rights.

“I disagreed, and I simply left, that’s all,” he said. – The Vibes, August 8, 2022
