KUALA LUMPUR – Amanah has handed over a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong urging for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to be established over the littoral combat ships (LCS) scandal.

Represented by party mobilisation chief Mohd Sany Hamzan, the memorandum was submitted to the Istana Negara through its corporate communications chief Datuk Muzli Mohamad Zin this morning.

Sany, who is also Taman Templer state assemblyman, said the matter is of great concern to citizens of Malaysia as a whooping RM6.08 billion has been spent by the government, yet no ships have been delivered.

An RCI is needed to bring the perpetrators of the delay to justice, he said.

“This is a very serious issue which involves the royal institution, the nation’s sovereignty, safety and defence as well as the misuse of the people’s money,” he was quoted as saying by Getaran, The Vibes’ sister portal, at the handing over of the memorandum today.

“We want a complete investigation to be done so that those who played a part can be judged. We do not want such controversial cases involving billions of ringgit to just be silenced in the end.”

He added that issues involving national safety and defence should not be compromised as the lives of citizens are at stake, noting that those selected to be part of the commission should be qualified and capable personalities.

“As revealed by the Public Account Committee report on the matter, there are prominent local individuals involved in the case, which is why we hope that an RCI can be established soon to identify those associated with the issue.” – The Vibes, August 11, 2022
