KUALA LUMPUR – Former Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Seri Amar Singh Ishar Singh has rubbished an allegation by a blogger that he had brought his girlfriend to a raid at former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s house in May 2018.

He described the claim made by Raja Petra Kamaruddin in a video published on his website as “totally false and unfounded”.

“He says I brought a civilian lady to a police raid of an ex-PM’s house. He then says that this lady was allowed to remove one suitcase containing cash and valuables recovered in the raid.

“These allegations are preposterous,” Amar, who was federal Commercial Crimes Investigations Department (CCID) chief during the raid, said in a social media post today.

The raids, conducted at Pavilion Residences condominiums and a house in Taman Duta owned by Najib, saw the seizure of hundreds of high-end handbags, cash in multiple currencies, gold, jewellery and luxury watches linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

“This is the biggest raid in the history of PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police). The raid was conducted in full compliance with the strictest rules applicable.

“Detailed records were made of what was recovered. No such lady was present nor anything removed as alleged.”

He stressed that the raid was conducted by a team comprising very senior police officers who later became directors and chief police officers of states.

Amar said there was a team of about 70 police officers comprising different elements of police. They included CCID officers, Criminal Investigation Department photographers, Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Act personnel, Special Action Team officers, traffic officers, and detectives.

“There is just no way anything could have gone through this team without anyone noticing,” Amar said.

“Moreover, this team met only on the day of the raid. There is therefore no possibility of any conspiracy to cover up.

“I had purposely put all my teams together from different elements to prevent future false allegations by mercenaries like RPK about the raid.”

In his video, Raja Petra claimed that he was met by a police officer recently who urged him to “expose” Amar’s alleged wrongdoings, insisting that many other police personnel were unhappy with Amar’s conduct during his time on the force.

“The police officer revealed to me that Amar had brought his girlfriend during the raid (at Najib’s house) and she had taken away a bag filled with confiscated cash and items,” he said.

He also asserted that his source had accused Amar of having a “bad attitude” as he had protected loan sharks and allowed them access to his office in Bukit Aman.

This is not the first time Raja Petra has attempted to smear mud on Amar’s name as the accusation above echoes claims Raja Petra had made last year where he also implied that Amar’s family members were loan sharks.

Amar had responded then by rubbishing the claims, saying that there is no need for his family to resort to criminal activity as they all work in professional lines.

Previously, Raja Petra had claimed that the former crimebuster was seeking Canadian citizenship after supposedly blundering investigations into the 1MDB controversy.

It is believed that Raja Petra is currently residing in the United Kingdom as he has reportedly been on the run from Malaysian police since 2009 after failing to appear in court for defaming Najib’s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor in an article on his website. – The Vibes, August 12, 2022
