KOTA KINABALU – Sabah DAP has put its efforts into mending ties with Warisan on the backburner for now to focus on strengthening its ties with Sabah PKR and Muda.
According to its committee member Chan Foong Hin, efforts to patch up strained ties with Warisan can only work if both parties are willing.
The Kota Kinabalu MP said it is best for the party to spend more time to familiarise with the leadership in Sabah PKR, which has recently changed.
PKR’s Keningau division chief Datuk Sangkar Rasam was appointed as the party’s new state chairman, replacing Datuk Christina Liew, about a week ago.
Liew, however, remains Sabah Pakatan Harapan chairman.
“Attempts (to mend ties with Warisan) must be both ways. At this moment, DAP needs to spend more time to be familiar with the new leadership in PKR.
“We also need to strengthen our relationship with Muda,” Chan told reporters here after a walkabout to distribute state flags and anti-party hopping law flyers here today.
Ties between Warisan, a Sabah-based party, and DAP have become strained since the former expanded to the peninsula.
DAP, which is traditionally strong in West Malaysia, accused Warisan of being “kacau daun” (disturbing the status quo) during the Johor state election last March.
Chan also proposed that Sabah PH hold a meeting for all the components – Upko, PKR, DAP and Amanah – to discuss their ties and leadership in the alliance.
On another matter, Sabah DAP secretary Phoong Jin Zhe, who was also present, said a better public transportation service should be built first before relocating the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.
The Luyang state assemblyman said relocating the airport will create a traffic nightmare if the current public transportation system is not improved.
He said major cities around the world have proper public transportation systems connecting the said cities to airports, he stressed, pointing to Sydney as an example.
