SERENDAH – A PKR divisional leader is encouraging people to view politics based on the character and capacity of individuals and not parties, so as to ensure that the country is no longer ensnared by the corruption of any leader.

Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan, who heads the party’s Hulu Selangor division, said that the tendency to choose leaders based on the parties they represent causes the country to lack individuals who are truly qualified in positions of power.

According to him, that fact is proven to be true and can be witnessed now, as most of the country’s leaders are made up of representatives of certain parties.

“We have many qualified leaders, but they are marginalised simply because the parties they represent do not dominate the national political stage,” he said in an interview with Getaran, The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister portal.

“We need talented leaders who are able to save the country from all the damage experienced at this time.”

Dr Sathia also expressed a keenness to offer himself to PKR as its candidate for the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat in the upcoming 15th general election.

He said that he is ready to help in advancing Malaysia in a better direction together with the help and support of “genuine, honest and sincere” individuals.

“I cannot possibly operate by myself, but the initial steps will begin today.

“It is not an easy matter, but I am sure that I will be able to succeed with strategic and detailed planning,” he said, adding that citizens and politicians must change their mentality to adhere to the principle of prioritising the nation.

Stressing that religion-based politics must come to an end as the concept only divides the people, he slammed politicians who insist on playing the religion card to garner support from voters.

“Many (politicians) are depending on religion to play up certain sentiments,” he said.

“I myself am not opposed to any specific religion because they all advocate good deeds, but politicians who ‘capitalise’ on religion are giving the religion a bad name.”

“PAS recently said they want to govern the country. They cannot even ‘take care’ of Kelantan! Supply of clean water, for example, has been a problem in the state since decades ago.”

He added that the statement by PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang about corruption – that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras are the ones most involved in causing corruption – is very annoying.

“Has he forgotten who is the biggest corruption criminal at the moment?” he said, referring to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who is currently facing a 12-year prison sentence due to the SRC International corruption case.

Dr Sathia is also the founder of SP Care Group, under which more than 13 clinics operate throughout the nation.

June Leow, who is the current Hulu Selangor MP, had previously lost the PKR branch chief’s post, which she held for two years, to Dr Sathia by 300 votes during the party polls in May. – The Vibes, September 4, 2022
