KUALA LUMPUR – With the 15th general election (GE15) inevitable within 60 days, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reminded Malaysians of the choice they have: a racist government or one that upholds multiracialism.
In a speech posted to his Facebook, Anwar said that while Malays comprise the majority of the population, the government must uphold the rights of all communities if Malaysia is to survive.
“Without a doubt, the Malays are the majority in the country.
“However, we also cannot deny that this country consists of many other races.
“For us to survive as a nation, we must serve all communities in this country,” the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said.
In GE15, Anwar said Malaysians have three major coalitions to choose from: Barisan Nasional (BN), Perikatan Nasional (PN) and PH.
He chided BN for its “token representation” of the Indian and Chinese communities through MIC and MCA, respectively, saying these parties did not bring any “impact or influence” to the coalition.
It is the same as PN, where the largest parties – Bersatu and PAS – are Malay-Muslim.
This is in contrast to PH, which consists of multiracial parties that fight for pluralism, he said.
