KUALA LUMPUR – Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said he will not turn his back on former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, or Pakatan Harapan, as all had fought hard together to topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) administration.
“When I was with PAS, I threw various verbal attacks at Dr Mahathir, a BN leader at the time, in my speeches, until I was detained under the ISA (Internal Security Act) twice from 1984 to 1986, and 1987 to 1989.
“However, Dr Mahathir then started Gerakan Selamatkan Malaysia and formed Bersatu to fight BN under Datuk Seri Najib Razak. He offered to work together, and we worked together in Pakatan Harapan (PH).
“We put behind our differences to reach the same goal. We fought hard together and succeeded in the general election in May 2018. That is why, when there are voices asking me to leave Dr Mahathir, I said no,” he said.
The former defence minister in Dr Mahathir cabinet, also known as Mat Sabu, said it is the same with PH's other coalition parties DAP and PKR.
“Our relationship in PH, especially with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, started 20 years ago. It must be defended; our weaknesses can be fixed.
“When we work together, splitting us (PH) apart is hard. The most important thing is unity and friendship, and finding ways to increase friends and reduce foes. This is my attitude,” he said. – The Vibes, November 28, 2020
