GE15: ‘Rafizi’s threat against Azam an attack on civil servants’ integrity’

PUTRAJAYA – PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli’s threat against Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki degrades the dignity and integrity of civil servants, said Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.

The Putrajaya candidate said the threat negates the responsibility of civil servants to carry out their entrusted duties.

“Civil servants only carry out their duties in accordance with the law and jurisdiction given to them.

“Furthermore, the investigation carried out by MACC against Rafizi is based on reports received from the public,” he said in a statement today.

According to reports, Rafizi said at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) ceramah in Johor Baru that PH “will come after” Azam if the coalition wins the 15th general election (GE15).

Prior to this, non-governmental organisation Pertubuhan Jalinan Perpaduan Negara had called on MACC to investigate the RM18.85 million in assets declared by Rafizi, who is also PH’s candidate for the Pandan federal seat in GE15.

Tengku Adnan said Rafizi’s threat implies that PH’s agenda, should it be given the mandate to form the government, is to abuse its power and act against civil servants.

“This matter needs to be taken seriously because any party that commits an offence, especially one against the Penal Code or MACC Act, should be investigated without having to consider their places in any political party.

He said Rafizi should be more open to an investigation into the acquisition of his assets, because that is the purpose of an asset declaration in the first place. – Bernama, November 17, 2022
