KUALA LUMPUR – Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi has slammed Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, labelling the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman as “arrogant and vindictive”.

Puad also poured scorn on Muhyiddin’s claims that he had 115 statutory declarations (SDs) from the newly elected parliamentarians supporting him as prime minister.

“Muhyiddin clearly has disrespected the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Muhyiddin claimed that he sent 115 SDs of MPs supporting him as PM.

“It seems like he blamed Istana which said the SDs are incomplete. If you dare, reveal the names of 115 MPs. Maybe there will be MPs from BN (Barisan Nasional),” he said in a Facebook post today.

Puad then rubbished Muhyiddin’s claims, saying without revealing the names, the palace and the people will not buy it.

“What was clear yesterday was Muhyiddin being arrogant and vindictive. Is he fit to become PM again? (With) Ustaz Hadi standing next to him, nodding. That’s PAS.” he said referring to PN component PAS’ president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Muhyiddin yesterday revealed that he rejected Agong’s proposal for a unity government with Pakatan Harapan (PH).

“Tuanku suggested that we cooperate with PH to form a unity government, but we have discussed since the beginning, we will not work with PH,” he said in a press conference.

“That has been our stand since the beginning. Under any reasoning, we will disagree.

“I was asked to sign a document in agreement, but we have unanimously agreed under known reasons why we cannot be with PH.”

The suggestion by the Agong was reportedly due to insufficient signed documents showing support by MPs from either Muhyiddin or Anwar.

However, Muhyiddin claimed that PN has obtained more than the necessary number of documents requested by Istana Negara.

“We have submitted the documents needed by Istana Negara to prove that PN has the support of 115 parties and MPs, with our SDs of support,” he said.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim were summoned by Istana Negara, as neither coalition chiefs managed to obtain a majority of 112 seats to be announced as prime minister.

In GE15, PH won 82 seats, PN 73, and BN 30. Smaller coalitions Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah won 23 and six respectively, while Warisan won three.

Smaller parties and independents make up four seats, while Padang Serai will hold a delayed poll on December 7 after the death of one candidate. – The Vibes, November 23, 2022
