KUALA LUMPUR – Two former health ministers – Khairy Jamaluddin of Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad – have vowed to team up and support their newly appointed successor.
Sharing with his followers on Twitter, Dzulkefly, who is also the Kuala Selangor MP, shared that Khairy had contacted him over WhatsApp to express his disappointment that the Amanah lawmaker was overlooked for the health minister’s post.
Dzulkefly said that he had no qualms about not being appointed as a cabinet member and told Khairy that he is a perpetual optimist.
To this, Khairy replied, “Hope we can work together to push the new YBMK (health minister) to do the right things.” Dzulkefly shared that he said yes to Khairy’s proposal to guide newly minted health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa, who is also Sekijang MP.
Khairy and Dzulkefly had contrasting 15th general election outings, where the former Rembau MP suffered defeat at the hands of PH’s Datuk R. Ramanan in Sg Buloh, while the latter defeated BN’s Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz for the Kuala Selangor federal seat.
Despite defeating Tengku Zafrul, Dzulkefly failed to make the cut for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s cabinet line-up which was announced last night, with all 27 ministers under the newly formed unity government taking their oaths of office before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at Istana Negara earlier today. – The Vibes, December 3, 2022
