KUALA LUMPUR – International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz was yesterday appointed as a member of the Umno Supreme Council (MT).
He took the oath of office before the Supreme Council meeting last night.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, in his tweet, said Tengku Zafrul was appointed by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“The MT#UMNO meeting on February 16 started with Senator Tengku Zafrul taking the oath as an MT member appointed by the Umno president,” he said.
The Supreme Council meeting held last night discussed in detail the ethical conduct during the party election to be held in March, said Umno information chief Isham Jalil.
He said the topic was discussed to ensure that the campaigns throughout the election period are carried out in a positive manner.
“A lot was discussed on the upcoming polls, on management and the dos and don’ts.
“The ethical practices discussed for example, was to encourage positive campaigns, not negative efforts of attacking candidates in Umno.
The smear campaigns will be observed not only by us in Umno but also by outsiders... and we don’t want that,” he said when met after the meeting, which was chaired by Zahid.
Commenting on the response to the party polls this time, Isham said it had been good thus proving the continuous growth of democracy in the party.
“To date, the number of nomination forms received has been very encouraging, which means many are interested in running for positions in Umno,” he said. – Bernama, February 17, 2023
