PUTRAJAYA – Datuk Zulkapli Mohamed has been appointed director-general of the Public Service Department (PSD) effective today, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali.

Zulkapli, 58, was earlier the PSD’s deputy director-general for development.

Zuki in a statement today said the appointment has received the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

He said the appointment was based on Zulkapli’s vast experience in various fields including policies, management, and services in the development of human capital.

“I am confident that with the knowledge and credibility that he possesses, he is able to carry the trust and responsibility in supporting efforts and ensuring that public sector reforms are in line with the aspirations of Malaysia Madani,” he said.

Zulkapli has served in the public service for 31 years and his first position was assistant secretary in the training division on December 1, 1992.

He had also served as chief executive for the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corp as well as Sabah federal secretary.

Zulkapli graduated with a bachelor of social science (honours) from Universiti Sains Malaysia, a master’s degree in international development from the University of Japan, and a doctorate in economics (international finance) from Meiji University, Japan.

On December 12 2022, Datuk Seri Mohd Shafiq Abdullah’s service as PSD director-general was terminated in accordance with Regulation 49(3) of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993. – Bernama, February 27, 2023
