KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia recorded 1,335 new cases of Covid-19 and 1,069 recoveries today, the Health Ministry said.
The ministry reported two deaths today, while three of the new cases were imported.
The fresh cases bring the cumulative number of infections to 72,694 since the pandemic began earlier this year. The death toll is currently at 382 cases.
The ministry also said 126 cases were under intensive care, while 57 required intubation.
It added that the total number of recoveries was at 61,273.
Both deaths involved senior citizens – a 65-year-old man at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh, Perak and a 72-year-old woman in Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang, Johor.
Both the deceased had prior health conditions, such as high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease and obesity.
Most of the new cases recorded today were in Selangor with 337 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan (258) and Sabah (250).
Johor had 125 new cases, Perak 108, Pulau Pinang 31, Labuan 21, and Kedah 17.
Pahang saw four new cases, while Melaka had three and Kelantan recorded two. There was only one case in Terengganu, while Putrajaya, Sarawak and Perlis recorded no cases today.
The bulk of Selangor’s 337 new cases today came from the Penjara Harapan cluster with 141 cases.
The ministry said 187 cases in the state were from existing clusters, while 87 were detected from close contacts and 61 were from other screenings. Two of the cases in the state were imported.
As of noon today, there were 6,627 cumulative active cases in Selangor. Of these, 4,644 were in Klang alone. Only three districts, namely Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor and Kuala Selangor, have the conditional movement control order rescinded.
In Negri Sembilan, 98 of the cases were from existing clusters, while 155 were from the Ceram cluster. Another 21 cases came from close contacts, while four were detected from other screenings.
In Sabah, 61 cases were from existing clusters, while 23 came from the new Pulau Berhala cluster. Another 106 were from close contacts, while 60 came from other screenings.
As for Kuala Lumpur, 44 cases were from existing clusters, while 12 came from close contacts. Another 121 were detected from other screenings, and one case was imported. – The Vibes, December 6, 2020.
