KUALA LUMPUR – More than a thousand food outlets are now part of the government’s Menu Rahmah programme since it was first launched on February 1.
According to reports in Getaran, the Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister-portal, the restaurants and food stalls across the country offer a variety of food – western and traditional cuisine, as well as fast food and pastries.
This is an encouraging development, in line with the unity government’s mission to ease the financial burden faced by the B40 group due to the increasing cost of living.
Offering balanced meals for as low as RM5, it is no surprise that outlets participating in the initiative are often teeming with customers.
The latest participant, McDonald’s Malaysia, yesterday launched three Menu Rahmah options in more than 300 outlets nationwide.
Melati Abdul Hai, vice-president of McDonald’s Malaysia, was quoted saying that the fast food chain got on board with the scheme in response to the government’s call to offer affordable food options to customers in need.
“The launch of this menu allows us to prepare meals for all customers so they can enjoy a delicious meal at McDonald’s at any time,” she said.
McDonald’s customers have the Menu Rahmah option of either a chicken burger, chicken porridge, or McEgg, all served with iced lemon tea.
Previously, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said the involvement of prominent restaurants in making the initiative a success proves that it is not a matter of pressuring traders, as claimed by some parties.
