KUALA LUMPUR – The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) views anyone misusing its name or position as a serious matter, and will not hesitate to take legal action.
While in its brief statement PMO did not mention any parties in particular, it is learnt that it was in reference to an ongoing allegation involving MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong and businessman Deepak Jaikishan.
Earlier today, Wee told the press that Deepak allegedly made attempts to “silence” him on matters pertaining to the importation of eggs from India.
Wee alleged that Deepak told him that PMO had made arrangements for the Ayer Itam MP to make an official statement concerning the matter.
“PMO views the actions of anyone misusing the department’s name for their own purposes as a very serious matter.
“Such actions are irresponsible and give a negative impact on the credibility of PMO and governmental institutions.
“Thus, PMO will not hesitate to take further action, including legal action towards those involved in such behaviour,” the statement read.
Earlier it was reported that egg importing company J&E Advance Tech Sdn Bhd sent Wee demand letters following his claims in Parliament that it takes four to five weeks to import eggs via sea from India.
However, upon referring the matter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Johari Abdul, he sent Wee a reply which confirmed that MPs enjoy legal immunity over statements made in parliament. – The Vibes, March 15, 2023
