Over 1,300 Covid-19 cases among immigration detainees since late August

KUALA LUMPUR – Some 1,355 people held at immigration detention centres have contracted Covid-19 since August 29, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Mohamed Said (BN-Kuala Krau) said the Bukit Jalil immigration depot has the highest number of Covid-19 cases as 650 of its detainees tested positive.

“Langkap depot has 481 Covid-19 cases, followed by Semenyih (127), KLIA depot (77) and 20 cases in Belantik, Putrajaya, Lenggeng and Juru.

“Since August 29, 60,583 prisoners have been screened and 829 are found to have Covid-19,”

He was responding to a question by Dr Lee Boon Chye (PH-Gopeng) who asked the Home Ministry on total Covid-19 cases among prisoners and people held at immigration depots. – The Vibes, December 9, 2020
