MELAKA – A full report on the operations of the Melaka International Airport (LTAM) in Batu Berendam, including the status of flights to Melaka, will be presented to the state government tomorrow.

State transport committee chairman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer said the presentation of the report by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) would also explain the cause of the recent flight service issues.

“From there, we will discuss the best measures that can be taken to reactivate this airport.

“We need the report, because all matters related to airport operations are under MAHB,” he told reporters after inspecting LTAM operations.

He further said the report will also be used as a reference in the state’s preparations to receive the influx of foreign tourists in conjunction with the Visit Melaka Year (TMM) 2024.

“There are demands for inbound and outbound flights, so we must reactivate LTAM. 

“It has no big issues related to infrastructure and facilities, so we need to reactivate the airport before TMM 2024,” he said.

In a related development, Hameed said the grass maintenance process around the airport would be completed in three days.

“The grass-cutting and cleaning work is now focused on the runway section and will be done in stages.

“The delay is due to the reshuffle of schedule following the unpredictable weather and not lack of maintenance by MAHB as claimed by the public,” he said. – Bernama, May 10, 2023
