SHAH ALAM – A pregnant 32-year-old medical officer was believed to have died after she had allegedly hung herself near her home earlier this month.
According to reports by Utusan Malaysia and Sinar Daily, the medical officer hailed from Shah Alam.
A cremation was held at the Nirvana Crematorium in Shah Alam on June 7, a day after she was found dead.
The news was shared by a Twitter user under the account @maddieness and has since gone viral on social media.
“TW (Trigger Warning): Suicide.
“Heard a medical officer from KK (government clinic) Kapar hung herself last week.
“At 20 weeks pregnant. Tragic case,” the tweet read.
The Twitter user claimed the news was shared by people who worked in the clinic and friends who knew the victim.
The user also urged social media users to check on their friends in the healthcare industry.
Since the news was shared, numerous social media users have expressed their sadness and urged those facing any issues to seek help.
Shah Alam district police chief Iqbal Ibrahim, when contacted by Sinar Daily, confirmed receiving a report on the incident, and said that the case was classified as a sudden death.
Last year, a Penang Hospital houseman died after he apparently fell from an office building.
The Healthcare Work Culture Improvement Task Force later said there was no concrete evidence of workplace bullying being linked to the Penang houseman’s death, but noted instances of coercion and overwork existed within the Health Ministry’s workforce.
The task force said this was based on the analysis of a report by the ministry’s Integrity Unit.
However, the task force pointed out there were other factors that had pressured the deceased throughout his course of work, including high self and workplace expectations, a challenging environment and a heavy workload, and long shifts. – The Vibes, June 17, 2023
