IPOH – A policeman who was on duty at the Tapah district police headquarters sentry and was injured when a container lorry crashed into the building’s fence and guardhouse yesterday is now reported to be in stable condition.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the police officer from Sarawak has been discharged from the hospital and was given medical leave.

Yusri said he visited the policeman yesterday and found that the victim had not sustained any serious injuries.

He also inspected the Tapah district police headquarters with the department heads to assess the situation following the crash and discovered significant damage to the fence and guard posts.

“I have directed the Tapah district police to lodge a report on the matter,” he told reporters after attending the state-level Hari Raya Aidiladha celebration here today.

Yesterday, Tapah district police chief Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said in the 1.25am incident, the lorry driver was travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh when the container laden with tables and chairs skidded and hit the Tapah guard post and main gate.

Wan Azharuddin said as a result of the accident, a policeman on duty at the guard post was rushed to Tapah Hospital after he suffered a broken front tooth and was injured in the mouth and left hand.

Police have arrested the suspect for further investigation. – Bernama, June 29, 2023
