KOTA BARU – The Kelantan Islamic and Malay Customs Council (MAIK) has allowed the opening of mosques and surau in the state for Friday and the obligatory congregational prayers, as well as other religious activities, except those in Kubang Kerian, here, and Kusial, in Tanah Merah.

Its president, the Tengku Temenggong of Kelantan, Tengku Tan Sri Mohamad Rizam Tengku Abdul Aziz said this is because Kubang Kerian and Kusial will be under the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) until December 20.

“For the Kota Baru, Pasir Mas, Tanah Merah dand Machang districts, the congregational Friday and obligatory prayers, as well as other activities, at mosques, surau and musalla are allowed in accordance with the guidelines on the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) announced by the government.

“However, all surau and musalla in the Madrasah Ad-Diniah area in Kampung Huma, Pasir Puteh – which is placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) due to the Huma Cluster – have been ordered  to close until further notice,” he said in a statement today.

He said the order on the closure of surau and musalla in the Mengketil Cluster area and Istana Negeri Kubang Kerian also remains indefinitely in place.

Tengku Mohamad Rizam said the matter has received the consent of Sultan Muhammad V as the religious head in the state as provided by Article 6(1) of the Kelantan Constitution.

He said MAIK called for cooperation from all parties to abide by the ruling.

“Together we remain steadfast and confident, apart from continuing to pray for all efforts and steps taken be blessed by Allah SWT, so that the Covid-19 outbreak threatening the state and country ends soon,” he added. – Bernama, December 12, 2020
