KUALA LUMPUR – On Saturday, Bau Wong Bau Ek from Pakatan Harapan (PH) defeated Juliana Abdul Ghani from Perikatan Nasional (PN) – making him the first elected representative from the Siamese community in Kedah.
Bau, who defeated Juliana by just 954 votes to win the Sidam state seat, believed that being a Siamese, he will be seen as more of a neutral representative and will survive the “green wave”.
On Saturday, PAS extended its dominance in Kedah by winning 33 of the 36 state seats.
Among the casualties were Kedah PH chairman Datuk Mahfuz Omar and state Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Mahzir Khalid who failed to win in Alor Mengkudu and Pedu respectively.
Kedah Amanah chief Datuk Ismail Salleh and state DAP chairman Tan Kok Yew also lost in the battle to defend their respective seats.
“Yes, it was indeed a shocking defeat. We were earlier looking to win at least 16 seats.
“However, I will do my best to represent the voice of my voters in Sidam,” he said.
At the same time, he said he also wanted to raise the concerns of the Siamese community in the Kedah state assembly.
“I appreciate and welcome the pledge by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor to forgive and forget and to work together for the people.
“I will work hard for all the people here, regardless of their race, religion or political allegiance,” he added. – The Vibes, August 14, 2023
