GEORGE TOWN – Malaysian workers can reasonably set aside fears about a supposed artificial intelligence (AI) “takeover” in the labour landscape, said Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang today.
Chang noted that initial findings by his ministry indicate that AI will not impact existing job fields.
The AI era will instead create innovative new opportunities, especially for employees with existing skill sets in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM), he said after launching the STEM Showcase 2023, in conjunction with the Penang 2023 National Science Week Carnival here today.
“...we need people to manage the maintenance systems of AI, IoT (internet of things) and so on.”
The ministry, Chang added, is working to ramp up interest in STEM by organising Science Week activities and tech Olympics nationwide.
Chang also said that his ministry will work with the Education Ministry, the Higher Education Ministry, and the Human Resources Ministry to revise the learning syllabus in schools to incorporate AI, coding and robotics. – The Vibes, August 25, 2023
