MIRI – Police have set up counter-aggressive teams (CAT) to tackle rising cases of vehicle thefts in Kuching.
Kuching police chief Ashmon Bajah today said: “We have set up five special teams…to detect, track down (suspects), and make arrests.”
“We had recently succeeded in busting seven crime syndicates responsible for such crimes in Kuching, but we continue to see a trend of rising cases and must intensify our counter-efforts.
“(The teams are) a joint effort between Kuching district police and Sarawak police headquarters,” he announced at a media conference after the Kuching police monthly assembly.
Bajah said criminals are becoming more advanced in their modus operandi.
As such, police need to counter such manoeuvres using the latest technology and technical methods, he stressed.
“We are also intensifying our 24-hour patrolling…the focus will be on public and populated areas in Kuching district,” he added.
Kuching has a population of about 650,000 and is the biggest urban area in Sarawak. – The Vibes, August 30, 2023
