PETALING JAYA – A Road Transport Department (JPJ) officer was injured after being struck by a motorcyclist attempting to escape a roadblock on the Seremban-Port Dickson highway yesterday.

In the 11am incident, a team of Negeri Sembilan JPJ officers were manning the checkpoint when the motorcyclist rammed into an officer after failing to stop when flagged down.

According to a statement released by the JPJ, the injured officer suffered muscle pain in his neck and head, and swelling in his hands and legs. After being treated at the Port Dickson Hospital, he was discharged as his injuries were not serious.

Initial investigations revealed that the motorcyclist involved had two active blacklists against him. The 25-year-old man was found to be riding a motorcycle with a road tax that expired on July 18, 2012.

He also did not have a driving license.

Following the incident, the man was detained and handed over to the police for further investigations.

In the same statement, the JPJ also announced that a month-long special motorcycle operation “Operasi Khas Motosikal Tahun 2023” was ongoing nationwide. The primary focus is to address significant offences that led to severe injuries and fatal accidents involving motorcyclists.

Video recordings related to the incident went viral on social media, with one of the videos showing the motorcyclist failing to slow down as he approached the checkpoint, subsequently hitting the JPJ officer on duty and sending him flying. – The Vibes, September 18, 2023
