KUALA LUMPUR – Inspector Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, whose case previously went viral on social media, was charged again in the magistrates’ court here today with allegedly causing public nuisance at a shopping mall by shouting and honking the car horn five months ago.
Sheila, 35, pleaded not guilty to the charge read before magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan at the courthouse here.
She was charged with behaving in the alleged manner to a 29-year-old woman in the parking lot of a shopping centre at Brickfields at 5.26pm on June 16.
The charge was made under Section 268 of the Penal Code. If convicted, she can be punished as per Section 290 of the same law, which carries a fine of up to RM400.
During the proceedings today, deputy public prosecutor Zuhairi Osman suggested that bail be set at RM1,000 with one surety.
However, Sheila’s lawyer M Manoharan appealed for his client to be released without bail. He said she would make an undertaking to appear in court on each date of the case proceedings.
He described the charge against her as baseless and shameful, pointing out that she served as a police officer for nine years and never committed any wrongdoing.
After listening to both parties’ requests, Illi allowed bail to be set at RM500 with one surety and fixed December 18 for submission of documents.
For the record, Sheila already faces three criminal charges at the Selayang magistrates’ court, where the trial of the case is set to start from February 5 to 7 next year.
On June 26, she was charged with committing criminal intimidation against M. Silverkoomarie, 69, at No 8, Jalan SG 1/1, Taman Sri Gombak here at 12 noon on June 15 this year, an offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to two years’ jail or a fine, or both, on conviction.
Sheila is also charged with insulting the modesty of Abdul Arif Farhan Abdul Razak, a police lance corporal at the same address, at 1.25pm that same day.
She is also accused of intentionally insulting the modesty of P. Taneswaran, 31, by telling him “look at yourself, fat and bald like a rhinoceros”, an offence under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to five years’ jail or a fine, or both, upon conviction. – The Vibes, November 8, 2023
