KUALA LUMPUR – The development of Johor’s Fastrack City, which includes a proposed Grade 1 Formula One circuit, has been delayed until further notice due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fastrack Iskandar Sdn Bhd operations director Lesley Wong told The Vibes that the company is reviewing its motorsports concept in light of border closures, economic conditions, industry trends and the health crisis.

“We have neither completely halted the project nor are there plans to dispose of the land.

“Pending a review involving all stakeholders, the project is delayed until further notice.”

He declined to comment when queried on the firm’s new motorsports concept.

Fastrack Iskandar, which is behind the development of the Fastrack City circuit in Iskandar Puteri, announced the RM3.5 billion project in 2012. It was originally slated for completion in 2019.

In 2016, the company said the circuit will feature a 4.45km track categorised as Grade 1 by the International Automobile Federation and Grade 2 by the International Motorcycling Federation.

The circuit was conceptualised by renowned racetrack designer Hermann Tilke, who was involved in the setting up of the Sepang F1 circuit.

In addition to its F1 track, it was reported that Fastrack City will also feature karting circuits and a four-wheel-drive park for off-roading enthusiasts.

Fastrack Iskandar is a joint venture between the Singapore-based FASTrack Autosports and UEM Land.

FASTrack Autosports is majority-owned by Singaporean billionaire Peter Lim. – The Vibes, June 27, 2021
