KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has been urged to immediately set a hearing date at the National Dispute Resolution Chambers (NDRC) regarding the salary arrears faced by 17 players from Super League team Melaka United FC.
The Professional Footballers’ Association of Malaysia (PFAM) in a statement today said that it had already raised the matter with FAM but was still awaiting a response from the country’s governing body for football.
“PFAM has taken action by sending a notice to Melaka United for them to settle the arrears, and this matter has been brought to FAM’s attention.
“PFAM takes seriously the problem of salary arrears faced by players and will help to defend the rights of players from time to time,” read the statement.
On August 8, PFAM received a report from 17 Melaka United players regarding salary arrears for the months of June and July, as well as the remaining payment for January.
“As of yesterday, the salary arrears have extended to three months because the players have also not received salary payments for the month of August,” the statement said.
This is not the first time Melaka United have been involved in salary woes, with a similar problem plaguing the club last season.
Melaka United are currently ninth in the Super League with 17 points from 16 matches played so far. – Bernama, September 8, 2022
