KUALA LUMPUR – It will be an all-Selangor affair at the Malaysian Games (Sukma) women’s badminton singles final as K. Letshanaa will take on Siti Nurshuhaini Azman at the Axiata Arena Indoor Stadium tomorrow.

Letshanaa said that she is looking forward to the final against Nurshuhaini, as the 19-year-old aims to kickstart her career again after leaving the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) earlier this year due to her back injury.

“Whatever happens tomorrow, I will still feel proud of my performance. It is a proud moment for Selangor, as the gold and silver will be added in our medal tally.

“Just because we come from the same state, it does not mean we will take things lightly in the final. We will go all out against each other,” said Letshanaa.

In the semifinals today, Letshanaa defeated Penang’s Tan Zhing Yi – a BAM player in straight sets. She won 22-20, 21-17.

Meanwhile, Nurshuhaini defeated Kuala Lumpur’s Amanda Yap in rubber sets, 15-21, 21-11, 21-13 in 39 minutes.

Nurshuhaini, who is also a BAM player, said she felt the pressure to secure a spot in the final, as having no BAM players in the Sukma final will not be a good look.

“I want to make this Sukma as my stepping stone to the 2022 World Junior Championships in October,” said the 18-year-old player.

Meanwhile, as expected, national shuttler Ng Tze Yong progressed to the final tomorrow and will take on BAM compatriot Leong Jun Hao from Kuala Lumpur.

The Johorean defeated Aidil Sholeh Ali Sadikin of Selangor in 21-14, 21-15 in the semifinal today.

At the same time, Jun Hao trumped Kedah’s Kok Jing Hong 16-21, 21-12, 21-12 to earn a spot in the final. – The Vibes, September 23, 2022
