KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian politics has made its way to the Qatar World Cup.

Surely, there are many Malaysian football fans who have headed to the Gulf nation to catch the world’s best players take to the field for the international football’s premier tournament.

But one Malaysian visitor in Qatar truly wanted to paint the town red, as he brought a Pakatan Harapan (PH) flag to Lusail Stadium in Lusail for the Group G match between Brazil and Serbia.

What makes this even better for Malaysians is the fact that the fan was also wearing a veshti (traditional Indian men’s attire) while proudly flying the PH flag.

The supporter’s excitement stemmed from PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim being appointed the 10th Malaysian prime minister.

Anwar was sworn in as prime minister before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah yesterday, hours before the match between Brazil and Serbia took place.

The election results have also led other Malaysians to bring the PH flag together with the national flag to Qatar.

Twitter user @WinYeePung said her father’s mission in Qatar was not to just watch all the matches, but to wave the Jalur Gemilang and PH flag at the matches he would be attending.

In the match this morning, Brazil’s Richarlison scored a brace to give Brazil the win in their opening Group G match.
