KUALA LUMPUR – Indonesian badminton coach Indra Wijaya will be parting ways with national shuttler Lee Zii Jia.

Speaking to The Vibes, Indra confirmed that his last day with Zii Jia’s team will be November 30, after he had a meeting with the world number 2 and his manager, Zii Jia’s sister Lee Zii Yii, on Friday.

The 48-year-old noted that the decision follows Zii Jia’s plan to embark on a new journey in his badminton career on his own.

“After much discussion with him and his manager, I appreciate what he plans to do and he said he wants to go on without a coach,” Indra said in a telephone conversation with The Vibes.

“I cannot comment any further and I respect his decision.

“After the meeting (on Friday), I went back to Jakarta for a holiday with my family, but I will be back to Kuala Lumpur to sort out any administration and management matters.

“For now, I am available to train anyone. I am open to anybody or any country that wants to use my services.”

Meanwhile, attempts to contact Zii Yii for comments were to no avail.

Zii Jia’s move also shocked fans, as qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics is scheduled to begin in May in China.

In February, The Vibes reported that Zii Jia appointed Indra Wijaya as his new coach after leaving the Badminton Association of Malaysia because he felt that Indra deeply cared for him and treated him like a son.

Under his registered Lee Zii Jia Badminton Club, Zii Jia also brought in a physiotherapist and a fitness coach. – The Vibes, November 28, 2022
