KUALA LUMPUR – Women’s singles shuttler S. Kisona has officially resigned from the national set-up today.
Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) singles coaching director Wong Choong Hann confirmed the news, saying that the 2019 SEA Games gold medallist wants to focus on recovering from her injuries.
“We understand that Kisona needs to take some time off to focus on her recovery and we discussed this with her in November,” said Choong Hann when met at a press conference today at the academy in Bukit Kiara.
Kisona has suffered from multiple injuries in the past – to her anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament, and posterior cruciate ligament – making it difficult for her to perform as of late.
The 24-year-old said, however, the duration of her leave from the national set-up will depend on her recovery progress.
In the meantime, she added that she decided to become an independent player due to the more flexible time management.
“I have tried my best in all tournaments that I have participated in. The injuries are recurring because I think there has been no proper recovery,” said the Seremban-born shuttler.
“The journey in the academy is different because you cannot always have a flexible time. So, if I become an independent (player), I could manage my own time.
“In ABM, (when) you have not fully recovered, you might have to compete in a tournament because you do not want your ranking to drop.”
Another player who resigned from the national set-up was men’s doubles player Low Hang Yee.
ABM also confirmed the release of 12 other players, including men’s singles shuttler Lim Chong King and women’s singles player Myisha Mohd Khairul. – The Vibes, December 19, 2022
