KUALA LUMPUR – Despite feeling unwell, national top men’s singles shuttler Ng Tze Yong is expected to compete at the All England Open Badminton Championships from March 14-19 in Birmingham.
National singles coach Hendrawan said this earlier when met at Akademi Badminton Malaysia.
He explained that the 22-year-old shuttler has been absent from training for several days as he has been coughing for nearly a month.
The Indonesian said he gave Tze Yong some time off to focus on recovery before the upcoming major tournament.
“I gave him a few days off so he could recuperate, but he will still be going for the All England,” said Hendrawan.
Johor-born Tze Yong was also under the weather during the 20th Malaysia Games held in September as he admitted to having a slight cough.
However, he managed to live up to his billing and successfully contributed a gold medal to the Johor team in the men’s singles category.
Tze Yong, currently ranked 28th in the world, last competed at the Thailand Masters in January but was knocked out of the quarterfinal after losing to Hong Kong’s Angus Ng Ka Long, 14-21, 20-22. – The Vibes, February 21, 2023
