KOTA KINABALU – It was an intense match for Sabah FC at Likas Stadium here last night as the host admitted that it was difficult to catch up with Selangor FC’s game style.
Speaking to the media after the match, goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat said Selangor’s moves were faster than they are used to.
As such, he added that it was satisfying to beat the Red Giants and earn three points to climb up to third position in the Super League table.
“It was a very satisfying match because we all played our hearts out and everyone knew Selangor was a tough team to beat.
“When Faisal Abdul Halim attempted to score and the ball bounced off my back and into the goal, I felt frustrated, but the team helped to get back at Selangor and scored the winning goal.
“There is going to be a long break after this, so we will ensure we have enough preparation before the next game and maintain our momentum from tonight’s (yesterday) game,” he said.
Meanwhile, man of the match Baddrol Bakhtiar echoed Khairul Fahmi and said head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee had expected Selangor to play a fast game.
“Tonight was our best performance.
“So, our coach had told us to set our focus right and be mentally strong. So, we followed his instructions and maintained our momentum.
“Winning the man of the match meant a lot for me and I thank the fans and everyone that supported us tonight (yesterday),” said the skipper.
As Sabah will be on a long break from the Super League matches after today, Baddrol added they will make sure to have enough preparation and continue to retain their standings in the league. – The Vibes, April 28, 2023
