KUALA LUMPUR – National men’s doubles pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi are one step away from claiming the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) title after taking down Japan’s Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi.

The eighth-seed Malaysian pair shocked their opponents 21-16, 26-24 in 50 minutes at the Al Nasr Club in Dubai, marking their second win against the world number four Japanese pair.

The Malaysians overcame a tough battle yesterday in the quarterfinals as they defeated world number one Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto from Indonesia 22-20, 21-15.

In the final tomorrow, they will play either India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty or Lee Yang-Wang Chi-Lin from Taiwan.

Earlier, national mixed doubles pair Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie crashed out of the BAC after losing to top-seed Chinese pair Zheng Si Wei-Huang Ya Qiong 21-11, 21-13 in the semifinals. – The Vibes, April 29, 2023
