KUALA LUMPUR – The long-awaited meeting between Malaysia’s top two men’s shuttlers ended in a victory for world number eight Lee Zii Jia today.  

Meeting for the first time at the President’s Cup, Zii Jia won 21-8, 18-21, 21-12 in 59 minutes against 25th seed Ng Tze Yong at Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara here.  

The President’s Cup is a team simulation competition involving players selected to represent the country at the upcoming Sudirman Cup in Suzhou, China from May 14 to 21.  

The competition format sees the 20 players divided into two balanced teams – the Malaysian Tigers and Malaysian Eagles.   

In the first match, Kee Is Qian gave the Malaysian Tigers the lead. The remaining matches will see M. Thinaah-Go Pei Kee take on Tan Wei Liang-Teoh Mei Xing in the women’s doubles.  

Men’s doubles player Aaron Chia will now be paired up with Ong Yew Sin, while Soh Wooi Yik will take the court together with Teo Ee Yi, while in the mixed doubles Goh Soon Huat-Lai Shevon Jemie will play Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei. – The Vibes, May 7, 2023
