KUALA LUMPUR – Ge-Shen Corporation Bhd’s 70%-owned unit Demand Options Sdn Bhd closed down its facility in Desa Cemerlang, Johor Baru, over the weekend for deep cleaning activities after 10 employees were confirmed positive for Covid-19.
The moulded plastic product maker said the financial impact to the group was expected to be insignificant, as most of the planned orders for the month had already been produced and were in the process of delivery.
“Furthermore, the management is actively in discussion with customers to push back delivery dates and has not received any cancellations of orders.
“Nevertheless, Ge-Shen will continue to monitor the situation and will notify Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd of any significant developments in due course,” it said in a filing with the exchange today.
Ge-Shen said mass testing had been conducted after the first case was identified, and a total of 80% of employees of Demand Options had been tested so far.
It said the remaining 20% would be tested in the next few days to deter community spreading.
“All affected employees have been provided with proper medical care and placed in quarantine,” the company said.
It said the management had informed the Health Ministry (MoH) and was awaiting further directives.
As an immediate response to protect the health and safety of the workforce and the community at large, the management immediately carried out disinfection and sanitisation measures at its facility, which was closed on Saturday and Sunday.
“Ge-Shen will continue to adhere to the standard operating procedures as directed by MoH in order to ensure the necessary safeguards are in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and to ensure that the employees are provided a safe and healthy working environment,” it added. – Bernama, January 25, 2021
