KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor Farmers Organisation (PPN) has become the largest shareholder in the National Farmers Organisation (Nafas), involving RM13.1 million or 20% of total Nafas shares, valued at RM65.56 million.

Recently, Selangor PPN has added an additional RM2 million investment to Nafas.

Selangor PPN board chairman Datuk Abd Rahman Bakri said the state PPN boasted a total of 55,857 members at the end of last year, comprising 14 area farmers organisations (PPK) with a total of RM3.79 million worth of shares invested.

He said that as of December 31, 2020, the total number of Selangor PPN shares in Nafas was RM9.91 million.

“Of this total investment, the dividend earned until December 31, 2020, is RM1.18 million, making the total share investment in Nafas as at December 31, 2020, amounting to RM11.1 million.

He also hoped that the additional investment would give higher returns to benefit members.

He said this at the dinner held in conjunction with the two-day meeting of the Special Committee on Certified Paddy Seeds, where additional Nafas shares were handed over to Selangor PPN here last night.

The meeting, held for the first time, discussed, among others, matters related to the paddy industry which involves the cooperation of relevant agencies in playing their respective roles to improve and increase the country’s paddy and rice production. – Bernama, March 24, 2021
