KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah government-linked Sawit Kinabalu Sdn Bhd today inked memoranda of understanding with two companies, involving a total investment of RM235 million.
The undertaking with Admuda will see the setting up of a sugar refinery in Kimanis, while that with Borneo Lestari is on barramundi, or siakap, breeding in Kota Marudu.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor witnessed the signing ceremony for the two MoUs, which have been hailed as part of the Sabah Maju Jaya plan.
Admuda will invest RM150 million in the sugar project, which is expected to be completed in a year’s time.
The refinery will sit on a 40ha plot owned by Sawit Kinabalu, with Admuda to produce sugar under Sabah’s first very own sugar brand Gula Kinabalu.
Borneo Lestari is expected to pump some RM85 million into the aquaculture project, which is due to produce up to 1,250 tonnes of fish annually.
The project site is on a 14ha plot belonging to Sawit Kinabalu in Langkon, Kota Marudu.
Both endeavours are expected to create 1,000 jobs, and potentially thousands more in the related sectors.
At the MoU signing, Admuda was represented by director Datuk Seri Raja Sulaiman Raja Shariff and Borneo Lestari by director Irwin Wong. Bacho Jansie appeared for Sawit Kinabalu. – The Vibes, April 19, 2021
