KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia was lower in early trade today, with its key index retreating from mild gains yesterday amid selling among the heavyweights, led by Top Glove.

At 9.15am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI fell 3.49 points to 1,570.53 from the close of 1,574.02 yesterday.

At 9.30am, there were 218 gainers, 317 losers and 368 counters traded unchanged on Bursa Malaysia.

The index opened 2.26 points easier at 1,571.76. Turnover was at 932.443 million shares valued at RM439.978 million.

Meanwhile, the ringgit opened higher against the US dollar despite the strengthening greenback, supported by steady crude oil prices and the positive sentiment brought about by the reaffirmation of Malaysia’s sovereign rating.

The US dollar had extended its rebound from yesterday after its sharp corrective pullback on Monday.

At 9am, the local note rose to 4.1510/1555 versus the greenback from 4.1590/1620 at the close yesterday. – Bernama, June 23, 2021
