KUALA LUMPUR – PETRA Modular (M) Sdn Bhd has demonstrated its continued commitment to sustainability and higher standards of manufacturing by being the first modular manufacturer to obtain the Intelligent Building Systems (IBS) Impact Certification, in addition to ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) and Sirim certification.

With these prerequisites completed, PETRA Modular, the modular technology arm under global Malaysian conglomerate PETRA Group, is now on track to receive the ‘Pioneer’ status to IBS certified modular manufacturers offered by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) under the government’s incentive scheme.

In addition to ISO 9001, PETRA Modular has also achieved ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) and ISO 45001 (Health & Safety Management System) to qualify for the Integrated Management System for a safer, more sustainable, environmentally friendly, and higher standards of manufacturing.

Rick Singh, the managing director of PETRA Modular, said “the IBS certification and ISO standards are a testament to how serious we are about quality and sustainability practice as we expand our modular technology footprint around the world while solving the housing and accommodation challenges the cities are currently facing.”

Recently, the PETRA Group was one of only 71 companies from around the world invited to the Vision 2045 summit held in Edinburgh in conjunction with the United Nations Climate Change Conference to share its sustainability practice and thoughts on addressing climate change with fellow thought leaders, government representatives and corporate heads.

“We hope that other manufacturers will also look towards enhancing their sustainable practice for the betterment of our future, and equipping them with the ability to compete internationally,” added Rick.

PETRA Modular provides building and housing solutions using proven propriety technology to deliver customised, reliable, sustainable, and secure accommodation.

Modular technology can generate up to 90% reduction in waste and noise pollution due to off-site construction and efficient usage of materials while enhancing energy efficiency.

PETRA Modular’s championing of sustainable practice is also in line with PETRA Group’s sustainable strategy and ESG (environmental, social, governance)

considerations across all companies within the group, which is headed by prominent philanthropist Datuk (Dr) Vinod Sekhar.

The underlying philosophy that the PETRA Group applies to all its businesses is the concept of social capitalism – being profitable whilst ensuring sustainable wealth creation for the betterment of all, including employees, customers, society, and the environments in which it operates.
