MALAYSIAN fans of Roald Dahl can breathe a sigh of relief as the highly-anticipated film, Roald Dahl’s The Witches, will finally be making its way here, premiering exclusively on HBO GO and On Demand on Astro on Friday, January 29.

The release straight to HBO GO for this theatrical film will enable viewers to enjoy the classic tale from the comfort of their own homes, especially during these challenging pandemic times.

Reimagining author Dahl’s beloved story for a modern audience, Robert Zemeckis, the Oscar-winning director Forrest Gump, The Polar Express, and the Back to the Future trilogy, the film tells the darkly humorous and heart-warming tale of a young orphaned boy who, in late 1967, goes to live with his loving grandma in the rural Alabama town of Demopolis.

As the boy and his grandmother encounter some deceptively glamorous but thoroughly diabolical witches, she wisely whisks our young hero away to an opulent seaside resort.

Regrettably, they arrive at precisely the same time that the world’s Grand High Witch has gathered her fellow cronies from around the globe – undercover – to carry out her evil plans to turn the world’s children into mice.

The film stars Oscar winners Anne Hathaway (Les Misérable) and Octavia Spencer, (The Help), Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci (‘The Hunger Games’ films), with Kristin Chenoweth (TV’s ‘Glee’) and comedy legend Chris Rock.

Newcomer Jahzir Kadeem Bruno (TV’s ‘Atlanta’) also stars as the brave young hero, alongside Codie-Lei Eastick (‘Holmes & Watson’).

To fully bring Roald Dahl’s The Witches to life, Zemeckis is joined by a world-class team of filmmakers, including Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro and Kenya Barris who bring a fresh sense of humour along with warmth and the unexpected to the film, which is sure to be enjoyed by the whole family.
