KUALA LUMPUR – Independent curator Sharmin Parameswaran, supported by Cultural Economy Development Agency (Cendana), invites art enthusiasts to the ‘PAUSE Visual Arts Exhibition – Part II’ featuring the second set of talented Kuala Lumpur-based artists.

On show until May 5 at Tun Perak Co-op situated in Jalan Tun Perak, the exhibition includes artworks from Alicia Lau, Amani Azlin, CC Kua, Emily Chow, Lim Jing, Nabihah Haiyee, and Ang Xia Yi.

While in isolation and during these uncertain times, the visual arts community found new conversations and the collective synergy of a shared experience that the whole community was going through.

The initiative to organise PAUSE Visual Arts Exhibition was an organic move to further engage with the visual arts community to capture and document collectively the visual arts community’s reactions to the pandemic and their isolation experiences.

“Last year changed the way we lived – individually, socially, and globally,” said Parameswaran.

“The idea for PAUSE was birthed midway through 2020 when we Malaysians were in lockdown, pushed into redoing and rethinking our daily lives, as well as relooking how (we) related socially, and with the world around us.

Art Kepoh founder Kenny Ng joins in to share her effort in this exhibition, running the Penang chapter.

The collaboration with Kenny Ng happened as Parameswaran was working with him at Art Kepoh, a digital platform for artists and art enthusiasts, to engage with visual artists to capture being in the moment of isolation.

The exhibition was also made possible through the Visual Arts Showcase Funding Programme by Cendana. – The Vibes, April 28, 2021

*This will be the last exhibition at Tun Perak Co-op as the organisation will retreat from the physical phase at Lot 62 and 64. More details can be found through the exhibition social media Instagram channel at @pause202x.
