KINGS University College (Kings) has entered into a partnership with CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM) to elevate the standards of cybersecurity education and research.

Kings vice-chancellor Professor Dr Mohamad Salmi Mohd Sohod said the collaboration will encompass various initiatives, including the provision of competency training programmes and professional certifications under the Global ACE Certification framework, and new endeavours designed to benefit all stakeholders involved.

Speaking at a recent Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony, he said he believes this partnership will pave the way for both parties to engage in collaborative research projects to address key cybersecurity challenges facing industries, governments, and society at large.

"Kings is also working to obtain approval from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) for cybersecurity programmes to be offered as standalone diplomas, degrees, and master's degrees, rather than as embedded modules within existing curricula.

“In response to the rapidly evolving landscape of cybersecurity threats and the increasing demand for skilled cybersecurity professionals, Kings is taking proactive steps to elevate the status of cybersecurity education in Malaysia.

"By seeking MQA approval for standalone cybersecurity programmes, we aim to provide students with a comprehensive and specialised education that meets the growing needs of the industry,” he said.

Meanwhile, CSM's chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Amiruddin Abdul Wahab said they looked forward to working closely with Kings to nurture the next generation of cybersecurity professionals and drive innovation in cybersecurity research.

"Together, we can make significant strides in strengthening Malaysia's cybersecurity ecosystem.

“Cybersecurity is no longer an optional skill but a critical necessity in today's digital age. Our collaboration with Kings reflects our commitment to providing students with the highest quality education and equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in this dynamic field," he said.

By leveraging each other's strengths and expertise, Amiruddin said they aim to make a meaningful impact in safeguarding cyberspace and building a secure digital future. - The Vibes, February 19, 2024
